“In the U.S., one student drops out of school every 12 seconds. That’s 1,308,445 students so far this school year.”

During a recent speech, President Obama discussed the needs of students today, the type of education reform , and the type of school he would like to see more of.

Big Picture Learning is one of the most innovated learning programs I have ever heard of, and witnessed. They have an excellent program that incorporates innovative learning, and hands on, real world learning.

I’ve never known any school, like a Big Picture school. In fact when I learned about big picture learning about five years ago, I noticed how it is similar to what many homeschoolers have been and are doing.

Individual customized learning for students, community service, job shadowing, internships, and even community college for its high school students.

Big Picture Learning is the best model for education that we have, and President Obama even agrees.

When my son began highschool, we made sure that it was at a Big Picture School. He is growing and thriving. Learning based on his passions, and being introduced to new things, and opportunities.

Not only is he a highschool student, but a college student, with not one, but two internships, and his first year in high school is not over yet.

Learn more about Big Picture Learning and tour a Big Picture school near you. We have an obligation as parents, teachers, educators, a community as a whole to provide the best for our children. “Making sure that none of us thinks its someone else’s job, but that we all except our role to play….”

Big Picture Learning is one of those options.

The California, Elk Grove Unified School District announced that is to establish one of California’s first Virtual Public Schools. They say its a green initiative, as well as a way to save money within the district. Over the past year, the Sacramento area has closed 3-5 schools in the city.

Elk Groves Virtual School will serve students grade K-12. They will use the ever so popular K12 curriculum, which many homeschoolers have been using for years. Elk Groves says it will costs approximately 5,000.00 per student in materials.

When my children were enrolled in CAVA, it used the same curriculum. K12 provides students with a computer, printer, microphone, hands on materials, cd’s, art materials, science materials, books, and more. There is an online calendar that provides students day by day assignments, calculates attendance etc.

Not that I am opposed to Virtual schooling, I actually new that one day it would lead to this, and was my reason for becoming in Independent Educator myself. I see more and more teachers going out on their own, as time and technology progress.

My question is, where is this going to go as for the future of education? Is it a true green initiative, or is our system seriously lacking in funds? Will public education eventually go away? Is this only the beginning?

As a parent I was always concerned about the public school system, and never desired for my children to be apart of it. But I still remain educated, and do what I can to assist in education of our children as a whole.

There are many countries where there is not a public education system in place. Poor families make the choice rather to feed, clothe, or educate their children. Often times choosing boys over girls. Is the US falling into this deficit? Will it eventually have the inability to educate children tuition free? And if so, will the people of the US be able to afford private education?

We all have a purpose in this life. We have each been given gifts, talents, and knowledge to use to better ourselves, the lives of others, and the world in general.

Imagine a giant puzzle, with millions of tiny pieces. Each of us, are one of those pieces to the puzzle. Serving a purpose, a function in order to bring the entire puzzle to success. If a piece is missing or out of place the puzzle is incomplete.

We must each find our place within the puzzle in order to bring success to not only ourselves but to humanity as a whole.

We all have a purpose,
