Printed Material: Naval Activity Photos
Archive
A torn page with multiple photographs of naval activity from a book entitled The Memorial War Book. Lewis Latimer preserved this page because one of its photographs shows the vessel he served on in the Union Navy, the Massasoit. He wrote below the photograph, “U.S. Steamer Massasoit North Atlantic Squadron Admiral Porter.”
Lewis Latimer was very proud of his Civil War service in the Union Navy, and kept this page from a commemorative book of wartime photographs, since it depicted the vessel on which he served.
