Patent Drawing of Light Bulb Filament Design by Lewis H. Latimer (1881)

During the late 19th century, the race to develop practical electric lighting was at its peak, with inventors such as Thomas Edison and Hiram Maxim leading the charge. Latimer, an expert draftsman and engineer, played a role in advancing carbon filament technology in order to extend the lifespan of electric bulbs.
