The drawing consists of three labeled figures (Fig. I, Fig. II, and Fig. III) that depict different components of the light bulb, including the filament structure and the internal electrical connections. The document is signed by Latimer himself at the bottom right, confirming his role as the inventor. Latimer made this drawing in the form of a patent application sheet, but he never patented this design
During the late 19th century, the race to develop practical electric lighting was at its peak, with inventors such as Thomas Edison and Hiram Maxim leading the charge. Latimer, an expert draftsman and engineer, played a role in advancing carbon filament technology in order to extend the lifespan of electric bulbs.
