Letter
The letter, dated July 10, 1915, from the African American physician and activist Dr. Monroe Alpheus Majors to Lewis Latimer, discusses a National Association of Negro Authors event in Chicago and acknowledges a previous meeting in Indianapolis. Majors mentions that Latimer’s friend Richard T. Greener had recommended that Latimer be approached to participate. It references participation of both Black and white distinguished figures and seeks the recipient’s support for a future gathering. Notably, Majors’s letter is on the official letterhead of the Lincoln Jubilee, a Chicago festival held in 1915 marking the fiftieth anniversary of the end of slavery.
