Water-Closet for Railroad Cars Patent Drawing

In the late 19th century, railway travel was expanding rapidly, but sanitation remained a significant issue. Latimer, an African American inventor and engineer, partnered with Brown to develop an efficient toilet system for trains, improving hygiene and convenience for passengers. This innovation was among Latimer’s earliest patents, preceding his pivotal work in electric lighting.
