Collage of Latimer Family Life and Homestead
Photograph
This is a torn page from a photo album featuring five sepia-toned photographs, likely documenting aspects of Lewis H. Latimer's family and home life. Latimer is in two of the photographs, the horizontal one at upper left and the large vertical one at bottom center. In both, he is the man wearing the hat seated on the steps to the left. Latimer enjoyed relationships with members of his extended family who lived in Connecticut and Massachusetts, and these snapshots were probably taken during one of his visits to New England relatives. The photos are mounted on black paper, which is aged and torn in places. The collage includes images of a family sitting on porch steps, a large home, a farm scene with chickens, and two smaller individual portraits.

The Latimer family was known for their achievements in engineering, invention, and community life. This collage may serve as a visual documentation of their home, family gatherings, and daily life, offering a glimpse into their lived experience during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
