About the classes
Do I have to be a college student to take the live classes?
No. The live classes run through Sierra College Community Education and are open to the public. You create a free account at sierra.augusoft.net, search the course number, add it to your cart and check out. Registration closes 24 hours before the start date.
How much do the live genealogy classes cost?
Four-week courses are $70. One-day workshops are $45. You pay Sierra College when you register.
Are the classes online?
Yes. Every class is live online. Courses meet Tuesdays at 6:30 PM and workshops meet Saturdays from 1 to 3 PM.
Which class should a beginner take first?
Genealogy 101. It's the foundations course, and the others build on it.
Are the self-paced courses available yet?
Not yet. The recordings are coming in 2027. When they open, the full Master Course will be $350 and single modules will be $50 each. Leave your name and email below and I'll tell you the day they launch.
What's the difference between the live classes and the self-paced courses?
The live classes are taught in real time, so you can ask questions as we go. The self-paced courses are recordings you watch on your own schedule, and they focus specifically on African American and African diaspora family history research.
