I reclaimed my Sierra Leone citizenship in 2022 through genetic proof. For me that meant proving my maternal ancestry, then a series of background checks and notarized documents. I had to be there in person. None of it could be done from home.

I documented the whole trip in my docuseries, and one episode shows each step as I went through it. This is my own record of what the process asked of me in 2022. It isn’t legal advice, and the requirements may have changed since.
